Career Wandering: my degree = ?!
A workshop brought to you by the UWO Student Success Centre and Housing and Ancillary Services.

Have no idea what to do with your degree? Do the traditional job opportunities disinterest you? Lost and/or confused about your next step in or after University?

THEN THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU!

In this workshop we will be having a range of speakers pursuing jobs and opportunities that are new, exciting and outside the traditional job fields we are associated with. Each speaker will present for 20 minutes and then as a group we will chart our next steps to help us find and pursue our passions!

Our Speakers:

Shawn MacDonell

Shawn has been coaching local, provincial, university, national, and international level sports (hockey, rugby, volleyball, and soccer) for over a decade. Currently is running three businesses respectively involving event planning, alternative teaching, and sport marketing. Additionally, he pursues Transition Coaching consulting that he has been doing with hundreds of people and industries for the last 4 years. On top of this he is also contracted by Carleton University to design, develop, and deliver it’s Local Employability Access Pogram (LEAP) through their Carleton Centre for Community Innovation department, which is delivered all across Canada at the moment via live sessions and video conferencing.

Michelle Baldwin

Michelle Baldwin is the Executive Director of Pillar Nonprofit Network, a community driven organization with over 165 member non profit organizations from London Ontario and Area. In her role, Michelle ensures that Pillar supports local nonprofits to fulfill their missions in the community by providing leadership, advocacy and support through professional development, networking opportunities, information-sharing and promoting volunteerism.

Nick Petten

While a student at the University of Waterloo, Nick founded the Out in the Cold Philanthropic Campaign to raise awareness and funds for homelessness and housing in the Waterloo Region. Over 3 years, 5 events have been organized and raised over $11,500 which are strategically donated to various organizations in the local community.

Nick is also consulting for UNESCO for an initiative called, The Power of Peace Network (PPN). PPN is attempting to build a global collaborative of universities and NGOs to promote cultural self-expression through the use of information communication technology and various broadcasting platforms. Nick recently returned from Bangkok, Thailand where he helped organize and present at a global forum for the initiative.

As well, he is coordinating volunteers through an initiative called, Time for Change, which matches volunteers with non-profit and community organizations. Nick spends the better parts of his life volunteering and working with children through various family and child development programs.
